2 Sisters the food production manufacturer has announced plans to invest £55m in its ready meals division which will secure hundreds of jobs at its site in Rogerstone in South Wales and others across the UK.
The company is one of British business’s most compelling success stories of the past 20 years. With over 23,000 employees drawn from 36 nationalities the company manufactures a range of foods from pizza to pies, from poultry to puddings, from ready meals to ranges of soup. The company produces a range of meals, soups and sauces primarily for high street giant Marks & Spencer. Other clients include Aldi, Asda, Co-op, KFC, Lidl, Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose.
The investment programme will be spread across 2 Sisters’ facilities in Rogerstone in South Wales as well as Carlisle, Grimsby and Sheffield.
A total of £38m will be spent on rebuilding the Sheffield factory known as Pennine, a purpose-built site launched in 1986, which has reached full capacity. The move will secure 800 jobs.
The work at Pennine will be phased, with some production being transferred to Rogerstone and Carlisle from April 2016. The move will be permanent, allowing the Sheffield factory to commence production on new ranges once work is complete at the end of 2017.
